While people like Crush worked tirelessly at menial tasks such as setting up the circus itself, Valen spent his time in his tent practicing his act with his favorite person in the world, himself. "Ladies and gentleman, prepare to be ama- No that's too cliché" he said to himself rolling his eyes. Valen needed to wow the crowds when they saw him otherwise he would be dead weight, something to be cut loose. Although Gavin had done right by him he didn't trust him, or anyone for that matter. He had learned at a young age that other people were either foes or tools to be used and then cast away, his world was one of lies and betrayal and if necessary, he would have no issue betraying the circus. Or would he?
Over his time with the circus, he found himself seeing the idea of betrayal as less of an option and he didn't understand why. Voodoo, she must be the reason. Sure the other member of the circus were interesting but Voodoo was the only one that actually tugged at his curiosity. Of course that led to a rather embarrassing moment that he would rather forget. His choice to try and learn sign language upon learning that she was mute in order to talk to her, of course he neglected to learn how she communicated till it was too late and he completely embarrassed himself trying to speak in sign language only to have that doll on her shoulder speak to him. The blow to his ego was enough to keep him from talking to her for a while but his curiosity still remained. Perhaps he would try to talk to her again after the show.
"Focus Valen!" he said smacking himself in the head to regain his attention on perfecting his act. Gracefully his hand glided of a vinyl record player and a haunting waltz began to play. Swaying to the music like a serpent being charmed he stepped with a flourish to look upon his invisible audience. "Welcome my friend to where reality and imagination waltz together for your entertainment. Let the images of Angels, fairies, elves and even demons and monsters fill your head, come to me and imagine creatures both alluring.." his form shifted to that of a voluptuous woman in a scarlet dress "and frightening!" his form shifted again to take the shape of a demon that would make any churchgoer run to their nearest congregation. "Think of these creatures, and describe them to your peers, but do not tell me, I prefer to look into your minds eye and bring your imagination to life!"
With that a smile crept across his lips "perfect, now to make yourself unforgettable." he turned to his mirror and began to comb and apply product to his hair along with a few touches of makeup to cover any as he would describe "microscopic flaws" he could find on his face. Sure he knew he was handsome, but he believed beauty required constant maintenance.
