Jesse sat at the edge of his bed. The package he had been waiting for sitting in his lap. His fingers strummed anxiously on the box for just a moment before he excitedly tore it open. Packing peanuts flew everywhere as he dug into the contents. It was here! It was finally here. He pulled out a mask. It was black and had neon blue X's over the eyes and a stitching across the mouth. He marveled at it for a moment before flicking the switch that lighted it up.
This is what he had been waiting for. He had already discovered his powers but the fact that he now had a costume of sorts had him reeling. "God bless you Amazon prime!" He cried as he scrambled off the bed to the mirror. He wanted to see himself in it. Placing it over his face he flipped his hood up over his head. There he stood in a black hoody with the neon reflecting back at him. He felt powerful. He felt like a real hero. A hero standing in front of a mirror in his boxers but a hero none the less!
Jesse owned a comic book shop. He couldn't count the nights he had spent fantasizing about power and being able to make a difference. It was a childhood dream come to life. Every hero needs a secret identity. Slipping on some black jeans to complete the look Jesse spent the next 10 minutes doing hero poses in front of his mirror. The mask was just so cool!
Jesse sprinkled some moss into his turtles tank. His turtle's name was Blastoise and he had painted cannons on his back to look like the legendary pokemon. Every hero needs a sidekick, but maybe tonight's outting might be a little rough on the fellow. Jesse slid open his bedroom window and paused as he crawled halfway out of it. Leaning back in he yelled to his roomate. "Julie! I'm going to bed!" He waited a moment and heard her shout back okay. With a smirk he clapped his hands and his clapper turned out the lights and he crouched out on the fire escape.
Looking at his dog, a Pomeranian. He raised a finger to his masked lips to shoosh his quiet growling. "See you later Mr. Puddles. I'm going to go fight crime and shit!" He laughed and closed the window. Jesse wasted very little time sliding down the fire escape and landing in the alley below. His sneakers splashed in a puddle from the light rain. He could feel the wetness in the air around him. The moisture waiting to be called upon. There was a flask in his back pocket. Filled with water and all he needed to kick a little ass.
Running through the alley Jesse jumped and rolled over the hood of a car before turning and running down the shadowy sidewalk. It was late. Well, late for him. 9 O'clock. That was almost bedtime most nights. Moving quickly he noticed people walking down the sidewalk. Spilling into a puddle his body softened and liquified until he was nothing more than running water slipping down the sidewalk. He raced over the cracked edges and into the gutter along the side of it.
"Stealth mode activated!" He said. His voice carried even in liquid form. The people walking down the sidewalk hadn't noticed his corporal form, but they heard the voice and looked around confused. Jesse had no destination in mind. He was just on patrol looking for anything to do with his new costume and turn to the vigilante lifestyle. He wasn't paying attention though and spilled into a storm drain and splattered into a sewer below. As his liquid body rained down into the sew it splattered and collected into his physical form. Jesse was covered in god knows what and sat there in a murky puddle of shit. "Aw man! My threads!" He complained.
Picking himself up he sighed. His life as a superhero hadn't started out the way he had hoped. Jesse had brown and yellow stains all over his white shirt beneath his black hoody. He found a ladder that led up to a manhole and quickly climbed it. He wanted to get out of this stench and back to his mission. He smelled awful. His silver hair hanging over his mask as his hood had fallen away. Pushing the manhole cover off he climbed out into the road only to hear a scream for help. "It's time to get you wet!" He paused. "Really need to work on my one liners." He thought and climbed up into the street and sprinted towards the screams for help.

Let the sun illuminate
the words that you could not find
The day had for Ruby had been so uneventful. It was just another day, full of nothing but same old stuff to do. The repetition was a dull knife just sawing through her mind and her last nerve. Her blonde hair hung in her face as she watched the clock. Nearing the end of her shift time always seemed to slow down. Taunting her, teasing her with freedom. She had already worked a double and tomorrow was her day off.
The clock ticked as she bidded her time, cleaning tables, finishing up with her guests and cashing out her tips. Going into the bathroom. Changing into some heels, a tight dress and a mask she looked in the mirror putting on some more lip gloss. She had plans tonight and they weren’t going to be ruined.
Taking a deep breath, she held it as she felt her body feel lighter. Passing through the wall of the bathroom she was in the alley. Her power of phasing had come in so handy. She never had to wait to get anywhere. Walking through the alley she wasn’t far from her targets home. A wealthy man that had so much money that he wouldn’t miss some of it. He’d make more by tomorrow anyway.
Getting to the home she phased into a random room. Going through she kept to herself, though she gave a charming smile to those she made eye contact with. Moving up the staircase she looked around before going through the wall. She had her a bag hidden there earlier in the week. She’d been planning this, and she wanted to make sure it went to plan. Though she hadn’t expected someone to come in as she reached into the secure safe and pulled out the money she pulled through it.
Panicking she grabbed the bag and ran. Going through the wall she fell a good fifteen feet. Falling through the ground for a moment before shooting back up as she made herself solid again. Her mask came off as rain drops started to mist down from the dark clouds over head. Taking off she set the bag of money behind a dumpster to keep it safe until she was sure that man couldn’t find her.
Though that was short lived as she had only gotten to the end of the alley before he grabbed her arm and yanked hard. She screamed out in pain as her wrist popped. “Someone, help!” She screamed. She could play the innocent woman. She wouldn’t have left any fingerprints behind, so even if the police believed the guys story, there was no solid evidence. Except the money. “Please, someone!” She cried out. Thunder roared and lightning struck the ground lighting the sky. The guy held tighter forcing her against the wall and placing a hand on her throat.

Jesse made it to the alley in time to see a girl getting accosted. No good. You don't treat ladies that way! Reaching in his pocket he clicked a button. A voice scrambler running to a earpiece headset microphone turned on. Got to love ebay! "Jeez! I should be in better shape for a superhero!" He complained. Jesse's voice was distorted, robotic... Deeper than his usually unimpressive timber. "Hey ugly! How about you leave the little lady alone huh?"
Jesse said as he reached behind him and reached in his back pocket and unclipped the cap on the flask of water. Water came spilling out of the air. "This is none of your business freak! Keep walking." Water spilled out of the flask and into his eager fingertips. Swirling around as dancing droplets of violent potential. The smile beneath his mask was really growing now as the spinning wet vortex of pain reached center mass. His fingers arched and with practiced focus he snatched the droplets out of the air.
A splash sound echoed off the alley walls. As if some portly kid did a running cannon ball into the deepest end of a hotel pool. Jesse's fingers wrapped around the hardening droplets and pulled them tight. Bending to his will and obeying his artful manipulation the water loosened and jingled. Pulling into a chain within his two hands. The chain sounded like a chain. It jingled like a chain. Though it dripped in the alley. Wet moisture spilling off the hard edges of the solid that was also liquid and full on mutation. At the end of this length of chain was a padlock with a glowing wet smiley face on it. A nice little touch, a signature of sorts. Let's dance thing buddy. Jesse thought.
"Sorry. I already met my quota for special requests today." He said sarcastically and swung his chain. The end of the wet chain wrapped around the man's hand on her throat. Woa! That was lucky! He wasn't a professional. He was amature hour for sure! Though it looked like he did that on purpose. With a tug and pull he ripped his violent fingers from her throat so she could breathe again. The chain was still caught around his wrist as it melted away into rain. Dripping on the concrete ground. It shaped itself into the shape of a rug beneath the man's feet and with a jerking motion pantomimed by Jesse The rug was literally ripped out form under him.
The man stumbled forward into a right hook crashing into his face. The man hit the floor in almost comical fashion. Well that was easy! He thought. Moving a step closer to Ruby he reached out a concerned hand. Still speaking in his robotic voice he asked. "Are you okay miss?" The man was back up before he could get an answer and had a gun to his back. Jesse froze. As he squeezed the trigger Splashdown rained into thousands of water droplets on the ground. It splattered all over the alley but he looked as if the bullet had made him melt or something. Rematerializing beside the man Jesse qupped before kicking him through a window. "Yoo hoo! Missed me!" The shattered glass rained all around the man as he felt into a building with his legs sticking out the window. He was so excited about kicking ass that he almost forgot about the victim.

Let the sun illuminate
the words that you could not find
Face turning red, lungs burning for air, even if she had wanted to use her powers her mind wasn’t ready to concentrate with the lack of oxygen. That was before some person, she assumed a guy, had come running to her aid. If she wasn’t trying to make herself look like a weak damsel in distress, she’d have gave the guy kudos for an awesome mask. It really gave off the vigilante vibe.
Her vision was beginning to go blurry as she heard something jingling and suddenly she felt the pressure on her neck release. Gasping for breath she fell to her knees grasping at her throat. Coughing a few times everything started coming back into focus.
She watched in curiosity as the big oaf was practically out matched. Did this guy save people for a living? He seemed to know what he was doing, though not being able to see his face made that more difficult to know for sure. Her heart was racing with adrenaline as the boy wonder came over to help her up.
A scream left her as her pursuer fired a gun. She had to close her eyes. She hadn't wanted to get anyone killed. Though opening her eyes she noticed he was gone. Rain was pouring down hard now, the sky roaring with thunder and lightning popping across the clouds. Her eyes caught movement as something started rising and forming. Next she knew the big guy was down and out, going straight through a window.
Sighing Ruby pushed herself up from the dirty alley floor. Her wrist throbbed fiercely, turning a slightly darker purple. It was probably broken, and speaking of broken. Taking a step she stumbled into the wall as she lost her balance. The heel of one of her high heels had broken when she had been yanked back. Seeing his excited reaction to winning the fight Ruby couldn't help but to smile. "Wow, you're pretty talented. I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't come to help."

Jesse finally remembered that there was an innocent lady there who had just been attacked. Reaching up to scratch the back of his hooded head he laughed a little. The chuckle too came out distorted and robotic. "No problem miss. I wasn't anything special. No good criminals need to learn that justice will always prevail. He didn't hurt you did he?" Jesse was sweet. Kind of clueless but overall good intentioned. He didn't have the first clue about being a hero. He was just an overgrown kid playing superhero. He just happened to have some pretty awesome powers to not get himself killed.... In the first week that was at least.
"Hey. Who was that guy? Random lowlife?" He questioned. He wasn't suspicious. Jesse was just making casual conversation and doing a bad job at it. He might be a super hero persona but underneath the mask he was still a shy awkward dork who owned a comic book store. He didn't have leagues of experience talking with the ladies. Before she could answer his question her heel snapped. She stumbled a bit and he raced to catch her. It was raining now. Even in the alleyway they were getting pretty wet. The wet never bothered Jesse. Being a water manipulator he loved being out in the rain.
It was one of the things that gave his powers a boost. LIke a joyous idiot he was outside running around in the streets during every violent storm and hurricane warning. Something about bad weather just made him smile. She fell into his arms and Jesse caught her with a confidence that was unfitting to his natual self. "Careful. How about....Uh we get you some place dry before you catch your death of cold." Jesse said. The mask blinked out one more time making it look like he winked at her. It was unintentional and he would have to buy a new mask since mr. Grumpy messed this one up. Without waiting for her to reply he liquified and brought her with him.
Both of their molecules turning into water. and running down the alleyway. Moving and spilling over trash litering the alley and out into the sidewalk. They would be able to see in this form but it was blurry. Like opening your eyes underwater in a pool. The same, the exact same as that only with a bright blue tint on the world. He should have warned her. Transitioning from solid to liquid the first time could turn your stomach. She would probably puke when they changed back, but he was being chivalrious. Being the gentlemen and escorting her out of the sketchy alley. He had enough water to surf her out of there but the girl was traumatized enough. Flying 50 feet in the air on an unstable wave seemed like a better way to freak her out than to make her feel safe and secure.
When they shifted back into people again he was standing in front of his comic book shop. He didn't think twice about taking her here. It was quiet and it was out of the way. He could better access how she was. When they came back to form he noticed she was shivering. "Sorry. First timers have it pretty rough." He admitted. Pulling the key from his jacket pocket he slipped it into the lock and opened the door. He didn't even stop to think that he might be giving away his secret identity by doing this. He was just helping a damsel in distress. Besides his metaphorical batcave was in the basement. Moving through the dark store he quickly made it to the basement.
Flicking on the lights at the top of the stairs he descended them to a room of computers and cb radios scanning for threats around the city. There was a mannequin in the corner with a cheesy and still WORK IN PROGRESS super hero costume on it. Yes, it had a cape too. It was spandex and it was the height of fashion and superhero dorkyness. "Welcome to my layer. Make yourself at home. I have food and drink in the mini fridge." He said rushing over to the computer that was blinking. "Rad! Check it out. Detroit savings and loans is being robbed right now." The police scanner on the table went off saying what he had already confirmed that there was a robbery in progress at Detroit Savings and Loans Bank.

Let the sun illuminate
the words that you could not find
It was all Ruby could do to not laugh. Justice didn’t always prevail. She was proof enough of that. Already ten different heists in and she hadn’t ever been caught. Until the close call tonight. “I think I’ll be okay. My wrist just hurts a bit.” Looking back at the guy that was still unconscious she glared at his unmoving body. “Yeah...I was just walking home from a party when he just jumped me.”
When he caught her, Ruby turned her body towards his, pressing herself closer to him. Looking up at the masked figure she gave a small smile as the light had blinked out. It made her blush some. Whether intentional or not it got her thinking it was. Guys trying to be hero’s she knew many just wanted to get the girl. With him just trying to make conversation though she didn’t think that was his ultimate goal. She was beginning to really believe he was trying to make good triumph.
The next thing she knew was the feeling of melting. She hadn’t expected to feel that, or for it to literally happen. The feeling had her stomach churning, and it in some ways made her feel panicked. Not being in control of situations she really wasn’t used to. She felt so disoriented as they seemed to become solid again in what she assumed was blocks away from where they originally were.
Her body lurched forward as she tried to keep down her dinner, but it was a futile attempt. Let’s just say, a bacon cheeseburger with a vanilla milkshake didn’t taste as great the second time. Though it wasn’t as bad as the shivering she was suffering. Though that was from a mix of pain in her wrist and the cold after coming back to herself. Looking up she noticed the name of the store. She’d looked at this place before. She never went in it, but she had thought about it a few times.
Moving in with Splashdown she looked at the different comics and action figures that lined the walls and ailes. Even in the dark it was easy to tell the place was well taken care of. She was careful going down the stairs on a broken heel, trying to keep her balance and keep from using her sprained wrist too much. Hearing the excitement in his voice as he flicked on the lights to his “lair” she couldn’t help the giggle she gave. He was so dorky and cute, it was hard to believe he was actually pretty badass at saving her from some douchebag. Even if it was her fault he was after her in the first place.
Hearing about the bank robbery in progress she rolled her eyes some. Amateurs...getting caught was a rookie move. “Well, I guess a hero’s job is never done, is it?” She lowered herself to a chair and sighed, letting her wrist rest on her lap. “Maybe you should drop me off at the hospital and go save the day?” She would probably need a wrap, or a cast. “I think that guy sprained my wrist.”
